Background of the Study
In the competitive banking sector, the ability to attract and retain top talent is essential for building competitive teams and driving organizational success. Zenith Bank has adopted advanced recruitment strategies, leveraging digital platforms, artificial intelligence (AI), and data-driven decision-making to streamline its hiring process. These innovative techniques—such as AI-powered candidate screening, virtual assessment centers, and predictive analytics—aim to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of talent acquisition (Olu, 2023). The theoretical framework for this initiative is derived from human resource management and technology adoption theories, which suggest that modern recruitment methods reduce biases and accelerate the selection process. By integrating digital tools with traditional recruitment practices, Zenith Bank not only reduces time-to-hire but also improves the quality of new hires by ensuring a better match between candidate skills and job requirements (Ibrahim, 2024). Moreover, the bank’s emphasis on employer branding and candidate engagement helps in creating a positive candidate experience, which is vital in today’s competitive labor market. Empirical studies indicate that organizations employing advanced recruitment techniques tend to build more dynamic and competitive teams, which in turn drive innovation and productivity. However, challenges such as algorithmic bias, data integration issues, and resistance from traditional HR personnel remain significant obstacles. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of Zenith Bank’s recruitment strategies in building competitive teams and to propose enhancements that address current limitations (Chinwe, 2025).

Statement of the Problem
Despite the implementation of advanced recruitment strategies, Zenith Bank continues to face challenges in building consistently competitive teams. Some HR practitioners have reported issues such as algorithmic biases that may inadvertently filter out qualified candidates, while integration challenges with legacy recruitment systems hinder seamless data flow (Olu, 2023). Additionally, resistance to new technologies among certain HR staff segments has resulted in a mixed adoption rate, causing discrepancies in candidate evaluation and selection. These challenges have contributed to inconsistent hiring outcomes and have potentially limited the bank’s ability to secure top talent in a competitive market. Moreover, while digital tools have accelerated the recruitment process, they sometimes result in a depersonalized candidate experience that may affect long-term retention. This study seeks to investigate these operational and strategic issues in depth, bridging the gap between the theoretical benefits of modern recruitment techniques and their practical execution, and providing recommendations to optimize the recruitment process (Emeka, 2024).
